Product Notices and Advisories
lymphapants in german clinic
  1. A new contraindication
  2. In consultation with our medical advisors, we have added an additional contraindication to the pants and jacket:  PATIENTS WHO ARE PREGNANT SHOULD NOT TREAT THE ABDOMINAL AREA.  If you have patients who want to use the pants or jacket during pregnancy, they must disconnect the cells over the abdomen and in the groin area, and cap the corresponding hoses.  When using the Lympha Press Plus, the "Cell Bypass" function should be used to skip the abdominal cells and the cells in the groin.  Therapists who use the device in clinic should be advised of this new contraindication. By the way, manual lymph drainage of the abdomen is also contraindicated during pregnancy.

Product News

Our Phlebo Press DVT system for prevention of deep vein thrombosis has been submitted for FDA 510K approval.  Approval is expected within the next three months.  Although the hospital DVT prophylaxis market is quite crowded, with fierce competition between market leaders Tyco and Huntleigh, there is definitely room for a good system in the home care and elective day surgery settings.  The Phlebo Press DVT is based on the same philosophy that has made Lympha Press such a success - sequential compression with multiple cells, for effective directional flow enhancement.  We are also the only manufacturer with machine-washable, reusable garments (competitors sell single-patient use garment only), making the Phlebo Press DVT ideal for home care. Single-patient use garments are available as well, for surgery and hospitalization.

Disposable paper pants - For those of you who ask what patients are supposed to wear under the pants, take note: stockinette is not enough!  Have the patient wear light cotton pantyhose, tights, or, even better, ourdisposable paper pants.  They protect the pants from soiling and perspiration, and are ideal for multiple user situations.  These pants are in stock at Lympha Press USA. So that you can see the advantage of this new product, we will be including one pair of paper pants free with each new Lympha Pants shipped to you.

clean room We are proud to announce that Mego Afek has received Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification from the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. This certification is extremely rigorous and requires adherence to the strict quality standards of the Japanese medical device market.  Mego Afek is the exclusive supplier of sequential compression therapy systems to Terumo Medical Corporation.  Terumo supplies medical disposables, cardivascular devices and other equipment in Japan and around the world.

This month, we offer some tips from our distributor in Denmark, Pernille Krough. Aside from being a dynamic salesperson, Pernille is also a registered nurse.

Here are a few of Pernille's recommendations for working with the Lympha Pants.

The pants are good for double leg edema, but can also be used for single leg edema. They prevent the edema from moving to the genitals or the other leg!

Put the pants on backwards to improve pressure on the back and decrease pressure on the stomach -works well on referred pain.

The pants can also be used on patients with colostomy - with one side open or backwards as described above!

The patient can lie on the side or stomach if they please.

Remember to tell the patient to flex the foot in the beginning, before the pants inflate, to avoid the foot being pressed down.  [Ed. Note:  if the pants hose pulls the foot down, you can also hang the hose bundle from the back of a chair.]

If the pants go too high up on the chest, advise the patient to open the zipper a little on both sides.

If the patient needs more pressure on the stomach, they can put a filling element such as a pillow on the stomach, to get extra pressure.

We have just completed our first year in New Jersey.  We thank all of our dealers for their support during this transitional period. Mary Bellini is enjoying life with her family in Nova Scotia and wishes you all well.

This first year has shown the emergence of the PBS (701A) and its wide choice of sleeves unparalleled by any other EO651 manufacturer. The number one comment of you our customers is that we made it too good. We have had a failure rate of 0.1%. Pretty amazing. Hope to see all of you at Medtrade in Orlando in October.
There's lots more in the next issue! Please send us your comments and ideas, so that we can include them.
